Summary of Job Responsibilities:
Serves as key instructor or co-instructor in assigned training programs for a product, office, function, or distribution system. OR, assists in review of current classes/programs and development of new classes/programs.
NOTE: Incumbents in this position may specialize in either classroom instruction or training development, but would begin to cross-train on the other function.
The following duties cover what are generally believed to be principal and essential functions of the job. Specific circumstances may allow or require some people assigned to the job to perform a somewhat different combination of duties.
CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION:
1. Conducts assigned courses and co-trains on assigned courses.
2. Serves as back-up to other instructors.
3. Cross-trains on course development responsibilities as assigned.
COURSE DEVELOPMENT:
4. Assists in the review of current classes and recommends modifications. Assists in developing new programs.
5. Surveys and reviews new training materials, media and techniques.
6. Assists in the planning and coordination of training programs and schedules.
7. Performs cost/benefit analysis of training programs.
8. Assists in scheduling and/or administering training programs.
OTHER:
9. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education:
Undergraduate studies in education, educational psychology, business administration or human resource management. Prefer technical insurance coursework, such as CPCU, CLU, FLMI.
Experience:
Three years related experience in adult education, supervision, training, underwriting, claims or similar product-specific area.
Knowledge:
Group dynamics, classroom instruction practices and procedures, adult education concepts; prefer familiarity with Nationwide corporate structure, products, and/or distribution systems.
Skills:
Platform speaking skills.
Ability to analyze program results and make recommendations and to identify training needs.
Ability to coordinate personal training schedule.
Prefer ability to operate A/V equipment such as overheads, VCRs, slide projectors, sound equipment.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
Physical ability to stand and move about room while instructing. Ability to carry boxes of materials; to move classroom equipment such as chairs, tables, A/V equipment. Non-standard work hours or travel may be required based on location.

PorticoHR is recruiting for multiple trainer positions for a special project in 2009. The position will entail delivering diversity training across the state. Interested candidates must be able to commit to at least two sessions a day, three days a week but can work up to five days a week if they wish. $25/hour including non-local travel time. The client will provide a car, daily per diem, and hotel accommodations if necessary. Out of state candidates are responsible for their own travel to the state. Purpose: Ensures effective on-boarding of new team members, and provides life-long learning opportunities for all team members consistent with the organization’s needs and individuals’ career interests. Develops, facilitates, administers, evaluates, and continuously improves learning and development activities for GreatAmerica. Performs a variety of additional HR duties as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Administers learning & development activities (e.g. monthly open enrollment classes, targeted training, and new employee orientation). This includes scheduling of courses, instructors and rooms, managing the communication and registration process, and maintaining training records.
Builds organizational enthusiasm for, and commitment to, life-long learning.
Develops, maintains and monitors learning & development success metrics. Implements corrective action or improvement plans to maximize the overall success of our learning & development efforts.
Meets regularly with leaders of all functions to identify and address evolving learning & development needs.
Develops new learning & development programs, and improves existing ones.
Provides assistance and coaching to facilitators of internally conducted training to optimize their effectiveness, including “train the trainer” classes and individual feedback.
Delivers and/or facilitates classes as appropriate.
Administers the company’s tuition assistance program, and recommends exceptions and changes as appropriate.
Evaluates and continuously improves the effectiveness and efficiency of learning & development activities. Ensures instructors have timely and useful feedback from the courses they instruct.
Is in attendance during business hours with minimal absences per GreatAmerica’s attendance policy. Works outside of normal business hours as needed.
Lives the GreatAmerica principles; involved in cross functional team efforts as assigned or required.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience: The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field, a minimum of 2 years of experience developing and delivering training, and a broad-based understanding of the leasing business. Must be self-motivated, with a passion for continuous learning, and for developing others. Must possess exceptional verbal and written communication skills. The ability to build and maintain credibility, and effectively influence a broad range of internal customers, is critical. The ability to prioritize, multi-task and follow through on commitments are also essential. Absolute confidentiality is a must. Technical acumen and an understanding of instructional design and adult learning principles are very helpful.
