Announcing CI-SHRM and CI-ASTD PartnershipCentral Iowa SHRM and ASTD as excited to announce a renewed partnership amongst our two chapters and as such, plan to deliver an increased amount of collaborative sessions and programs to both sets of our memberships in the near future. ASTD President Jen Goemann says, "In the several years I have been involved with ASTD, there has always been a question of what we could be doing to partner with our local affiliated chapter of SHRM. Recognizing that a portion of our membership may have similar interests from a professional development standpoint, it only made sense to look at a program partnership that could be mutually beneficial. We are excited to be offering a joint session as our leadership teams for 2013 have come together to discuss options and bring forth topics we hope our members will find engaging. My thanks goes out to Alan Feirer, Cheryl Conner, Chris Mason and Jill LaBarre for all your partnership efforts and making this happen!"
Central Iowa SHRM President Sara Deich, echoes Jen's statement. "We recognize that many of our members are responsible for the training and development of employees and we see this partnership with ASTD as an opportunity to provide our members with additional exposure to this very important aspect of HR. We are looking forward to our renewed partnership with ASTD and know we will be able to offer some meaningful programs for all members in the coming months."

The Character Counts! program is well-known in Iowa’s public school system. The program has helped train a generation of Iowa’s young people on the qualities that contribute to strong character and citizenship. Now the Institute for Character Development would like to take these concepts into Iowa workplaces. The Central Iowa ASTD chapter has volunteered to re-purpose their materials and make them ready for use in business-based sessions.
