Whether experienced or a novice, this session is for you! For those experienced in facilitation, this will be an opportunity to hone and refine some of your skills that may have slipped in the months and years gone by.  For those who are novice, this will be a chance to get off on the right foot as you move into the classroom.

In this one day session we will discuss the principles of adult learning, how to prepare for a training session, secrets to conduct a session, and how to handle various types of class participants. Along with this, you will have an opportunity to prepare for and present a "mini" training session, where you
will be videotaped and coached by seasoned professionals and peers. What a great opportunity!

After participating in this session, participants will be able to:
    • Define the adult learning principles that can assist in the design, development and facilitation of their training
    • Identify the pre-session considerations for an effective training session
    • Prepare and facilitate a mini training session
    • Utilize a variety of strategies to effectively work with class participants
A continental breakfast and snacks will be provided, along with lunch in the registration fee. Dress will be business casual. Plan to bring a sweater or light weight jacket in case the room temperature is cooler than you prefer.

    Pre-Session Work:
If you are an experienced presenter, consider bringing a
mini-section from a program you facilitate. If you are new to presenting, don’t worry. Ideas will be provided for the mini-presentation.

    Project Management for Training

Next to doing training for the right reasons, program implementation is the most significant factor in achieving the business results you expect.  This presentation will encourage you to blend the disciplines of project management with the essentials of good instructional design which results in performance improvement.  Project success depends upon the managed expectations of all stakeholders (sponsor, project manager, project team members, your organization, etc.).  You’ll get lots of tools, advice, and best practices on how to treat your training initiatives like projects, and get better results.

    Objectives:

After my presentation, you will be able to:

    1. Define your training and development projects using commonly used project management terms, concepts, and principles
    2. Reconcile popular models of project management, ISD, product development, and HPT to inform you on your unique project
      life cycle
    3. Define the role of project manager for your training projects
    4. Plan your training and development project using a robust project planning procedure
    5. Assess your project using the Seven Keys to Success
    6. Select and apply proven project tools to your projects based on your unique needs (How much project management do I need?)
    7. Draft an action plan for your training project

    Dan Topf will be facilitating.

We use instruction pamphlets when hooking up our new flat screen televisions. We use recipes when trying out a new meal mentioned in our favorite magazine. Then it should be natural to think we need guidance when designing effective training programs for our employees!  We will begin the day by exploring how to analyze your employee training needs.  We’ll move to identifying the course content, and wrap up with designing the interactive training program.  Besides learning from tenured professionals in the field, you will have an opportunity to network with others who are involved in their organization's employee development efforts.

At the end of this training day, you will be well equipped to:

    • Identify performance gaps and conduct a needs assessment
    • Utilize principles of the adult learning process in training design
    • Incorporate various exercises in your training program to increase engagement and interaction
Cathy Belmont and Max Gage will facilitate this event.
